Fourme d’Ambert is a crown jewel of French blue cheeses, originating from the Auvergne region and prized for its refined flavor and sumptuous texture. Made from pasteurized cow’s milk and aged in volcanic caves, this iconic blue offers a delicate balance of earthiness, creaminess, and subtle blue veining—less sharp than Roquefort, yet profoundly complex.

Producer Details

L'Or des Dômes is made by Société Fromagère du Livradois, a family-owned dairy in the Auvergne founded in 1949 and now run by the third generation of the Thuaire family. Fourme d'Ambert is one of France's oldest protected cheeses, with roots in the volcanic highlands of the Puy-de-Dôme stretching back to Gallo-Roman times. Livradois produces it the way it has always been made — hand-salted, slowly ripened, and shaped into the distinctive tall cylinder that has defined the cheese for centuries.

Storage Tips

+

When you receive your cheese, unpack the order right away and refrigerate the items. We recommend using the cheese paper we wrap and ship the cheese in to store your cheese at home. A good place to store the cheese is in the salad drawer of your fridge because the moisture helps to prevent cheese from drying out while also allowing it to breathe. Always bring cheese to room temperature before serving.
