Cookie Queen: An Evening with Susan Spungen

Conversation, cookies and book signing with Alyssa Mastromonaco

Holiday baking has a way of bringing people together. Join us in Ampersand, Talbott & Arding’s event space, for an evening with Susan Spungen celebrating her new cookbook, Cookie Queen: 80+ Irresistible, Doable, Giftable Recipes.

From chocolate olive oil cookies to raspberry-pistachio spirals and gingerbread-date biscotti, Cookie Queen offers plenty of inspiration for the holiday cookie tin and for the batch you keep for yourself. Susan’s recipes range from familiar favorites to unexpected combinations, with practical guidance to help home bakers create cookies that are as lovely to give as they are to eat.

A cook, food stylist, recipe developer and cookbook author, Susan was the founding food editor of Martha Stewart Living. Her work has also reached the big screen: she served as culinary consultant and food stylist on Julie & Julia, It’s Complicated and Eat Pray Love. She brings that eye for detail and a lifetime of cooking experience to a book devoted to the pleasure of baking and sharing cookies.

At 6pm, Susan will take the stage with our friend, neighbor and fellow cookie lover Alyssa Mastromonaco for a 30-minute conversation about baking, holiday traditions and Susan’s life in food, followed by questions from the audience. Alyssa is a New York Times bestselling author and served as White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations from 2011-2014. Alyssa is currently a producing partner with George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth at Bed by 8 Productions that produced Emmy nominated Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.

Our pastry kitchen will prepare three cookie recipes from the book to enjoy with wine and water. After the conversation, stay to chat, meet Susan and have your cookbook signed. Copies of Cookie Queen will be available for pickup and purchase during the evening.

Come with your baking questions and leave with fresh inspiration for the holiday season.
